Carers Week Event – Bedwellty House, 9th May 2022

As part of Carers Week 2022 Age Cymru – Carers Community Services and Blaenau Gwent Social Services joined together to host a special event celebrating all unpaid carers within the community and to show our appreciation and thank them all in person.  Photos

The event which was held at Bedwellty House in Tredegar on Thursday 9th June, gave us the opportunity to show our appreciation and to say thank you for all the wonderful work unpaid carers do. It also gave carers the opportunity to have some well-earned time out from their caring roles and at the same time a chance to meet up and talk face to face with other carers and professionals.

Tania Hooper, the Council’s Carers Lead Officer said:

“it was so good to see everyone in person again after what has been a very difficult few years, particularly for unpaid carers.”

We brought together a number of agencies/organisations who specialise in supporting individuals and their carers; and they were on hand to provide the most up to date information and advice. Carers also had the opportunity to participate in therapeutic craft sessions provided by Lark Design Make and enjoyed a delicious buffet to end the day.

All the carers who attended expressed how lovely the day was and how useful they had found the information that was on hand.

Councillor Hayden Trollope, the Council’s Executive Member for People & Social Services said:

“It is so important to give recognition to all carers, they give so much and ask little in return, the enhancement they give to the lives of the people they look after is unmeasurable. So on behalf of Blaenau Gwent Council and all the residents of the Borough we say a big ‘THANK YOU’ for all you do.”
