Our Cemeteries

Our Cemeteries

Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council welcomes all visitors to our cemeteries and requests that visitors respect the peace, dignity and reverence of these facilities.

Our Cemeteries are communal spaces for quiet reflection and remembering loves ones.

All Blaenau Gwent cemeteries are working cemeteries and burials take place regularly. In addition, other activities are being carried out e.g. monumental masons could be working graveside near to your family grave. Also, contractors might be repairing roadways, cleaning gullies, carrying our building maintenance and cemetery improvements.

Sometimes, on your visit you will find the ground conditions very wet and muddy due to the climatic conditions in which we live. We do apologise for this; however, we make every effort to alleviate the conditions by placing land drains within each section of the cemetery. You might find that topsoil is needed on your family grave to bring it up to the level of the surrounding ground. If this is indeed the case, please ring 01495 311556 and we will undertake the work for you.

On other occasions you might find graves being re-opened for a burial next to your family grave. Every effort is made to minimise any disruption to you and your family. Further details can found within our Rules and Regulations.

All activities such as the placing of headstones, kerb surrounds etc must be authorised by the Environment Directorate.
