Council Service disruptions due to hot weather

Due to the weather warning currently in place for extreme heat some services have been adjusted. Thank you for your understanding as we support our staff during these conditions.

Waste & Recycling

A reminder that waste and recycling collections will start from 6am tomorrow (Wednesday) and Thursday.

Green waste collections will be suspended In order to prioritise other collections and will resume as normal from Monday. You can take green waste to our recycling centres but please note these will be operating reduced opening hours and will be open from 8am until 1pm on their normal days. Opening days.

We’ll be making sure our crews are staying hydrated and wearing sun protection.

Please bear in mind, there may be some disruption, if your collection is missed we'll return as soon as we are able.

School Closures

All School settings have moved to online learning

In the event that a school is closed e.g. due to flooding/ adverse weather, the details and reason along with relevant contact information will be provided here. https://www.blaenau-gwent.gov.uk/en/resident/schools-learning/school-closures/ 

In the event of school closures due to adverse weather, schools are now able to provide blended/online learning, please check with your child's school for more details.

Preschool childcare settings

The Council's three preschool childcare settings will be closed Wednesday and Thursday due to the warnings for extreme heat. These are: Twinkle Tots, Garnlydan, First Friends, Cefn Golau, Swffryd Sunflowers. All classes and groups at Flying Start hubs and at Blaina Integrated Children's Centre will be cancelled. Private childcare providers will notify parents directly of their arrangements for the next few days.

Youth Services

All face-to-face youth service sessions are closed from 3pm on Tuesday, and all day Wednesday and Thursday. It is hoped to reopen from Friday. Youth workers are still contactable through the usual channels for support for young people.
