Three town centre properties in Blaenau Gwent have had a makeover with help from the Transforming Towns Place-Making Grant.
Homestead Café and Classic Fish Bar in Brynmawr and the Positif Care offices in Abertillery are all looking great thanks to funding from Welsh Government, administered through Blaenau Gwent Council.
The funding aims to help people enhance their business, support local employment and contribute to the improvement and rejuvenation of high streets in the county borough.
Homestead Café, Bailey Street, Brynmawr
This eatery on the town square in Brynmawr has been transformed following an extensive programme of works that included a new roof (inc. Photovoltaic panels and battery technology), insulated render to three elevations and new windows realigned to the building original character.

Classic Fish Bar, Bailey Street, Brynmawr
The popular chip shop has been significantly improved thanks to a new roof that incorporates photovoltaic panels and battery storage technology; rendering and the replacement of shop fronts to the front and rear. Minor works have also been carried out to the inside space – including tiling and upgraded lighting.

Positif Care, Abertillery
This former empty property has benefitted from a new double shop front, new signage, external render, new upper windows and roof replacement works that include Photovoltaic panels. The property is now operating as an office/hub for those working in the private residential care for children sector.

The grant can provide up to 60% of a total project cost, with the applicant meeting the rest of the costs.
