Tour Guide Training

Do you have what it takes to be a tourism guide? Are you proud of your area? Do you want to share its heritage with visitors? Then you may just be the person we are looking for.

Wales Best Guides are the official tourism guiding body in Wales and they are about to launch training sessions in Blaenau Gwent. On completing the course, guides will be qualified to deliver tours of Bedwellty House, Tredegar town centre, Guardian, Six Bells and Abertillery town centre.

As well as equipping Guides with skills and knowledge to lead safe, entertaining, informative tours, the course creates a body of knowledge for Guides to deliver to visitors, all to globally recognised Guiding Standards.

On completing the course, you will receive a White Badge and a certificate from WOTGA – The Wales Official Tour Guide Association. If you get bitten by the tour guiding bug, you can continue to Green Badge (Regional) courses and then the Blue Badge (All Wales) course. As a qualified White Badge Guide, you can be a member of the Wales Official Tourist Guide Association and be able to earn as a freelance qualified Guide. You will be recognised by Visit Wales (Welsh Government) and the European Federation of Tourist Guide Association, so this is your opportunity to earn from your guiding.

The course fee is £250 or, in place of paying a course fee, once you’ve received your White Badge you can agree to deliver four 2-hour tours in Blaenau Gwent without charging a guiding fee.

These courses are organised by Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council and are supported by the UK Government’s Shared Prosperity.

If you have any questions or want to chat about the course or request an application form, contact Diana James at dianamjames@btinternet.com or on 07527 450138. Closing date for applications is 26th March so please don’t miss out on this opportunity.
