A new Towns Together initiative will see the Council work with residents, businesses and community groups to makeover a street in Brynmawr town centre this summer.
Towns Together will see people join up for the one-day makeover of Beaufort Street on Saturday 22nd August, from 9am. The street was chosen by over 72% of people during a recent public poll.
The council is busy engaging with local businesses and community members to involve people in what they would like to see happen as part of the makeover, and how they can help on the day. Improvements could include painting, cleaning and planting, all aimed at making the area more attractive to visitors.
Councillor John Morgan, Cabinet Member for Economy and Place said:
"Towns Together is a great example of the Blaenau Gwent Deal, demonstrating how communities can come together with the council to improve the area in which they live. We have listened to businesses and residents who tell us they want to see improvements made to their town centre and, whilst the council has a significant role to play in this, it’s clear that real lasting change comes from everyone pulling together, getting the job done, and ultimately having pride about their town and a desire to look after it.
"With this collective action, we hope to make our town centres into areas where people want to visit and businesses want to invest."
Ahead of the day, the council will also carry out jet washing in the area.
The Towns Together programme is part of the council's new Blaenau Gwent Deal approach to working alongside communities.
