Getting an autism diagnosis requires a detailed assessment and involves a team of professionals. This is known as a diagnostic assessment.
Diagnosis in Children
If you are worried about a child under 5, it is important to start the conversation. You can speak to your GP, health visitor, another health professional and/or your education provider. For children over the age of 5, the GP and/or school would be the first people to speak with. They will be able to talk to you about how a referral can be made. See the video below for more information.
Diagnosis in Adults
If you are an adult and feel you may require a diagnosis or are caring for an adult, If you are caring for an adult or you feel that you maybe undiagnosed, you can make a self-referral/community referral to the Integrated Autism Services. https://abuhb.nhs.wales/hospitals/community-services/autism-service/
The Integrated Autism Service has been set up jointly between Health and Social Care to provide diagnostic assessment for adults (sometimes jointly with other services), support and advice for adults with a diagnosis and those who support them (parents/carers/partners).
You can access advice sessions to discuss anything related to Autism or to learn about their service.
