Councillors have approved a draft timetable for a new Joint Local Development Plan for Blaenau Gwent and Torfaen.
The Draft Delivery Agreement sets out the timeline for the different stages of the process and outlines how residents, businesses, third-sector groups and partners can get involved.
Councillors in Blaenau Gwent and Torfaen also approved a Collaboration Agreement, which will govern the arrangements needed to prepare the Joint LDP.
The draft Delivery Agreement will be go out for consultation before a final version is considered by councillors in both authorities in November.
Cllr Joanne Gauden, Torfaen Council’s Executive Member for Economy, Skills and Regeneration, said:
“The draft Delivery Plan is an important step in the process because its the first opportunity members of the public and businesses have to help shape one of the most important documents for the future of both boroughs.
“It’s important communities are involved in developing the plan so the challenges and opportunities in their local areas are reflected.”
Councillor John Morgan, Blaenau Gwent Council’s Cabinet Member for Economy and Place, added:
"Our Joint Local Development Plan will play a vital role in guiding development across both boroughs over the coming years.
"The Delivery Agreement provides the roadmap for how that plan will be prepared and how residents can have their say at every stage.
"We are committed to a process that is open, transparent and community-focused, ensuring that future development meets local needs while supporting economic growth, protecting the environment and creating sustainable, thriving places."
Local Development Plans are developed by local authorities to guide future developments, land use and infrastructure requirements over a 15-year period.
Existing Blaenau Gwent and Torfaen Local Development Plans will remain in place until the new joint plan is adopted.
