Four children’s parks in Brynmawr and Ebbw Vale are looking great thanks to fresh new makeovers.
Playgrounds at Brynawel and the Recreation Ground in Brynmawr, and Newtown and Pennant Street in Ebbw Vale have recently been refurbished with brand new, modern, accessible equipment.
Newtown and Pennant Street will be open for use soon – finishing touches are being made.
All park refurbishments have been carried out by Wicksteed.
Councillor Sue Edmunds, Cabinet Member for Children, Young People and Families said:
“I’m delighted that these parks have been refurbished and are open for children and young people in these communities to enjoy. Our priority is to give every child the best start in life. Play is so important for the development of cognitive, physical, social, and emotional skills and this helps to ensure children have safe, fun, and inclusive spaces to enjoy for years to come.”
In several areas, play spaces are also being maintained and supported by local community groups. The Council has been working collaboratively with these groups to help secure funding and source suitable equipment, working as part of the Blaenau Gwent Deal.
The Council is currently developing a new Play Strategy for Blaenau Gwent and is considering feedback from the community about their local play facilities.
