‘Dydd Miwsig Cymru’, or ‘Welsh Language Music Day’ is an annual event that occurs on the 7th of February celebrating all forms of Welsh language music.
In 2025 this celebration was embraced whole heartedly by the borough, with the release of the ‘Blaenau Gwent Anthem’, written and performed by representatives from each primary school in the borough.
The talented Mei Gwynedd led a writing workshop with the students at the Children’s Grand Council session at the General Offices to create a song all about Blaenau Gwent.
Mei went away and worked his musical magic and created the music. The Children’s Grand Council then came together to film an amazing music video!
We want this anthem to become a staple of Blaenau Gwent, to be sung loud and proud in all types of settings.
