At Blaenau Gwent’s Full Council meeting, Councillor Tommy Smith was appointed Deputy Leader of the Council. Cllr Smith is also the Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods and Community Services.

Councillor Jules Gardner was appointed as the new Cabinet Member for Adult & Communities.

The appointments were welcomed by councillors.
Cllr Smith said: “I am honoured to be appointed as the Deputy Leader of the Council today and thank my colleagues for the confidence shown in me. I am fully committed to working with colleagues from across the political spectrum to offer my support and to ensure we are all working together for the good of our communities here in Blaenau Gwent.”
Councillor Jules Gardner steps into a Cabinet position for the first time. He said: “I fully welcome the challenge & opportunity to serve as the Cabinet Member for Adults and Communities, building upon the great work carried out by Councillor Helen Cunningham. This is an incredibly important portfolio as we move into a bold new way of working with our communities and partners, with the aim of building a fairer, more resilient borough, that will improve health and well-being of constituents , while aiming to reduce inequalities.”
