Ebbw Vale town centre was filled with festive spirit as the Christmas lights were officially switched on last Friday, marking the start of the season’s celebrations. The event, supported by the BGCBC Town Centre Team, brought together families, friends, and visitors for an evening of festive cheer.
Support for the switch on was overwhelming. Funding came from town centre businesses, the former Ebbw Vale Town Events Forum, the newly formed Ebbw Vale Town Partnership, and Deacon Fairgrounds, alongside local organisations and businesses including Ebbw Vale Rugby Club, Ace Kitchens, A1 Bounce, Masquerade, and JJ Desserts. Elected members Sue Edmunds and Jonathan Millard not only showed their support but also contributed financially to the event, underlining their commitment to the town.
The lights were switched on by local hero Elizabeth Sullivan MBE, who, with her team, has raised an extraordinary amount of money for Cancer Research and continues to inspire the town with her dedication. Her involvement gave the evening a heartfelt touch, reminding everyone of the strength of community spirit in Ebbw Vale.

Councillor Chris Smith presented Elizabeth with the award prior to the switch on.
Councillor Jonathan Millard, said: "The switch on showed how The Deal works in and for our communities, local partners working together to create something spectacular.”
Councillor Sue Edmunds, commented: “This truly festive event was a perfect example of what we can achieve with our community coming together to back local events."
The BGCBC Town Centre Team were delighted to have organised the switch on and to kick off the Christmas celebrations. With the support of the community, they hope to make the event even bigger and better next year.
A date for your diaries, the light switch on event next year will be held on Saturday the 28th of November 2026.
