The act is enforced by the Information Commissioner’s Office and Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council is registered with the Information Commissioner as a Data Controller.

The Data Protection Act requires anyone who handles personal information to comply with a number of important principles. It also gives individuals rights over their personal information.

In response to the Data Protection Act 1998 Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council has a Data Protection Policy.

For further information on the Data Protection Act you can go to the Information Commissioner’s website which contains a great deal of information about this subject, answers to frequently asked questions (FAQ's)  and a downloadable copy of the Act in full.
