Blaenau Gwent Warm Hubs Grants

This week, Blaenau Gwent Council has received a Welsh Government grant of £28,566 to support the creation of Warm Hubs in the borough.

The Warm Hub grants will be administered by Blaenau Gwent Council and funding will be allocated to support existing or new Warm Hubs that focus on the delivery of:

  • basic refreshments, snacks and a meal if possible
  • opportunities to socialise
  • advice and support on financial matters, health and well-being or digital inclusion.
  • activities such as exercise, arts and cultural activities.

Cllr Steve Thomas, Leader of Blaenau Gwent Council says:

“We recognise the immense pressure the current cost of living crisis is having on many people locally, and we made it one of our top priorities to do all we can as a Council, and by working with partners, to support our communities.

“Warm Hubs are somewhere residents are provided with a welcoming, safe and warm environment that they can access at a time when things can be difficult at home for a number of reasons this winter. There are currently some warm hubs operating in the borough and we have received funding to set up further projects. We are looking for community groups and organisations which understand the needs of local people to apply and work with us on providing these schemes.”

Small grants of around £1000 will be made available to applicants that meet this criteria. Applicants will need to complete a short online application form to indicate how they plan to operate the warm hub for the period up to 31st March 2023 and demonstrate what they intend to spend the grant on, such as running costs, refreshments or equipment costs.
