This May is National Walking Month and it encourages everyone to try to walk for 20 minutes every day throughout the month. There are so many benefits to walking and it is so easy to access from your own doorstep.
Regular exercise counters loneliness and social isolation. It is a gentle form of cardio exercise that is completely free. It has many health benefits including helping to prevent the risk of conditions such as type 2 diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure and certain cancers, as well as positively impacting your mental wellbeing by reducing stress, anxiety and also depression.
This month Blaenau Gwent will be publishing a walk a day that will get you out and about exploring our beautiful landscape. You can do part or all of the walk and learn something about our heritage too. Follow us on social media for your daily walk.
Cllr John Morgan, Cabinet Member for Place and Regeneration said, ‘we are fortunate to live in such a beautiful area, packed with heritage and offering a variety of walks to suit everyone. This month of walks explores old tramroads, picturesque parks, tranquil lakes and community areas cared for by volunteers. Exploring what is on your doorstep uncovers the past and as we approach the 75th anniversary of the NHS offers you a healthier future too.’
Walks will be published on social media at 8:ooam every morning throughout May.
