Would you like to trial the next generation pooper scooper?

We are seeking 5 residents based in Blaenau Gwent that each own one medium sized dog (e,g. Labrador), or two small sized dogs (e.g. Jack Russell) that mainly deposit their 'doo' on the lawn in the garden. As part of the trial, you will receive the dooup Complete Waste Clearer 'Starter Pack' to keep for on-going use. The starter pack includes the dooup garden device, 600ml sanitising fluid, and a pack of 20 self-sealing bags.

As a participant, you will be expected to provide information about your current weekly routine of clearing dog's waste, as well as your comments about using The dooup CPWC. You may be required to comment indirectly or directly via the media, with the possibility of some TV exposure.

What is The dooup pooper scooper?

The dooup is the next generation pooper scooper and is the only dog waste clearing device that can offer scoop-flush technology! It’s a 5 in 1 garden gadget that covers, clears, sprays, stores and seals the dog waste away.
No need to bend, get close or transfer to a bag. Place the dooup centrally over the waste, pushing firmly and swiftly on the lever, always returning to the ‘up’ position before tilting back and lifting away.
For soft, runny or dried in waste, push the handle several times and reposition from different angles to achieve maximum clearance.
Keep outside or in the shed (out of reach of children) and grab each day to cover, clear, spray, store – then at the end of the week, or when the bag is full, remove the storage chamber which automatically seals the biodegradable bag.

To watch an information video or for further reading on The dooup, please visit their official Website.

Good Luck!

Surfacing Works, A467 Abertillery

The Council's contractors have started work today, September 20th, to resurface a section of carriageway adjacent to Tesco's store that was in a poor condition due to en extensive public utility trench.
Planing off is being carried out today, and new surfacing will be laid on Monday 23rd September.
During the works, temporary traffic signals will be in place, and the town centre junction signals will be deactivated to avoid congestion at the works site.

14:45PM- 19TH SEPTEMBER, 2013

Drivers and pedestrians should be aware that Somerset Street Abertillery will be closed to traffic from Monday September 24th for a period of 6 weeks.
Shop frontages at Fads and Bon Marche House are being refurbished, and footpaths in the area are being reconstructed as part of the ongoing Town Centre regeneration programme.
Pedestrian access is being maintained, and businesses will be trading as normal, but vehicles will not be allowed in the area between the Police Station and the junction with High Street. Temporary two-way traffic will be allowed on the remainder of Somerset Street, from the Cenotaph to the Police Station, and bus services will operate from a temporary bus stop on Vivian Street.
Local signing will be in place to assist drivers and pedestrians.

9:55AM - 19TH SEPTEMBER,2013

Drivers should be aware that this Sunday, September 22nd, the Councils contractor's will be working to complete the road resurfacing outside Asda's store at Blaina Road, Brynmawr, between the Town Centre Roundabout and the Pond Road Roundabout.
These works are being carried out on a Sunday to minimise disruption to drivers and shoppers, but there will be traffic controls in place, and it is unavoidable that some disruption will occur during the laying of the new road surface.

12:05PM - 18TH SEPTEMBER, 2013

On Tuesday 24th September an abnormal load will be travelling into Blaenau Gwent up the A467 from Crumlin, then turning up the A4046 to Ebbw Vale from the Aberbeeg Roundabout.
The vehicle will be under Police escort, and carrying a 49metre wind turbine blade. This is a test drive to make sure that components for a proposed wind farm at Hafod y Dafal Farm can safely negotiate the roads into the Valleys.
The vehicle is expected in Blaenau Gwent around 11.00-11.30 am. There may be delays due to slow moving traffic as a result.

12:00PM - 18TH SEPTEMBER, 2013

Please find attached a new major highway works info sheet for the bridge repairs due to commence at Trinant Hall Viaduct on September 30th.

On Wednesday 22nd May 2013 Blaenau Gwent C.B.C. in conjunction with Keep Wales Tidy held its annual ‘High Profile’ Spring Clean event.

This was Blaenau Gwent’s 4th Annual event; this year the area chosen was Peacehaven and Bedwellty Pits, Tredegar. This is a community clean up day organised to improve the local area, make neighbourhoods green and litter free and to give the community a sense of civic pride as well as raising awareness that litter is unacceptable.

A huge thank you to the local schools that took part, the pupils and staff of Georgetown Primary School and Tredegar Comprehensive School were very enthusiastic as they joined in to make this a very successful day.

With the help of many willing hands from Tai Calon, The Probation Service, Business Resource Centre, Job Centre Plus, B.G.’s Street Scene Department, B.G.’s Waste and Recycling Team, B.G.’s litter champions and many local councillors it resulted in more than 300kgs of rubbish being collected.

A special thank you to Thom Board, Keep Wales Tidy Project Officer, who bravely put on his waders and entered the very cold water to help the pupils of Georgetown Primary retrieve discarded items from the water – well done Thom and all the children!

Blaenau Gwent C.B.C’s Environmental Mascots Envi Ron and Tidy Heidi also joined in with the community clean up at Peacehaven.

Following the event, all volunteers were invited back to Peacehaven Court for light refreshments, which were supplied by B.G.C.B.C. Street Scene Department. Many thanks to Tai Calon Community Housing and The Residents of Peacehaven Court for allowing  their facilities to be used for the event.

Blaenau Gwent’s Street Scene Department looks forward to welcome all willing volunteers to next year’s Annual Spring Clean.

If you would like to nominate an area for B.G.’s Annual Spring Clean 2014 please contact: -

9:45AM – 11th March, 2013

Construction works in the area adjacent to Dukestown cemetery are due to start on 11th March. Contractors will be stripping soil and starting to construct the temporary access to the cemetery next week. This means that the toilet facilities will also be moved from their regular position to a location near by.

Following this there will be a slight re-alignment of the existing access road/kerbs near cattle grid to allow access over the temporary bridge. The bridge will be installed W/C 25th March. The existing access will then be redundant and full access (with gate and cattle grid) will be via our bridge.

Construction work will be stopped whenever there is a funeral.

If you have any further queries regarding this work, please don’t hesitate to contact Mr Paul Hayden on 01495 355843.
