Young People's Support (NEET)
Directory of support for Young People who are not in Education Employment or Training (NEET) or at risk of becoming NEET
Each year a number of young people leave school and do not progress into Education, Employment or Training; these individuals are then classed as NEET (Not in education, employment and/ or training). Alongside this there are a number of processes that identify those young people who are risk of NEET, to support early intervention and successful transition. The local authority is currently in the implementation phase of the Blaenau Gwent NEET Reduction Strategy 2011- 2014 (*please see useful documentation section for a direct link). In line with this a co-ordinated approach has been developed to sourcing provision, supporting continued engagement and re-engagement in relation to young people.
The following Tier System has been created to support professionals and young people alike, to easily access appropriate provision suited to their needs. This approach has been adopted from the Swansea and Wrexham model, which is widely used throughout Wales and is classed as an example of good practice.
Within each tier (See model below), you will find a direct link to the Provisions Directory, which gives you a detailed description of available services within Blaenau Gwent. Additionally the link also provides you with information regarding the tier each provision falls into; its target audience; eligibility criteria; funding status and timeline. The directory will be continually updated in line with the emergence of services and changes to current service structures.
