Admissions forum

The Council has established an Admissions Forum to consult and discuss admission issues. The forum enables us to consider how local arrangements can best meet the needs of parents and how such arrangements co-ordinate with other issues such as planning of school places and making provision for children with special needs or difficult behaviour. The forum is made up of:-

  • Council officers; 
  • Parent Governors and representatives of the local community; 
  • Roman Catholic Diocesan and Church in Wales Dioceses with schools in the area; 
  • Heads of Foundation Schools and Community and Voluntary Controlled schools; 
  • Heads of Voluntary Aided schools.

The forum is key to developing informed and confident dialogue between the Council and schools on budgetary issues, including schools’ funding levels for the coming year, pressures on future years’ budgets, changes to local funding formula and reviewing contracts / service level agreements to schools.

Forums have been set up to represent the views of schools and other interested bodies on the Council’s schools’ budget and other matters related to school funding. The forum is a consultative and advisory body, and not a decision taking body.

The Schools Forum comprises at least 15 members appointed by the Council, of which not more than one quarter must be non-schools members. Schools members must include a proportionate number of representatives of primary schools, secondary schools, community schools, voluntary schools, and at least one must be a representative of a special school. At least one schools member must be a parent governor.
