Councillor Hedley McCarthy, Leader of Blaenau Gwent Council, said:
“Well done to all of our A-Level students on their great achievements. It is great to see hard work pay off! I would like to congratulate our young people and wish them the very best in their future endeavours. I’d also like to thank all our school staff and governors for their continued dedication to the education of our young people here in Blaenau Gwent.
“These results suggest that we are on track to deliver even better outcomes for Blaenau Gwent learners. Raising educational standards is one of the council’s top priorities and although we’ve made progress, we know that more needs to be done. We will continue to progress our strategy to transform education services so that in future even more young people achieve their full potential.”
Sylvia Lindoe, Director of Education and Leisure at Blaenau Gwent Council, added:
“Congratulations to our students! We are working with schools, families, and partners to achieve further improvements in educational standards. Many exciting developments are coming forward in September. There are multi-million pound investments in educational facilities, and Blaenau Gwent’s Learning Zone and Ebbw Fawr Learning Community will open soon. I wish our students the very best of luck as they move into their future career.”
From September, Blaenau Gwent Council will be working closely with the new Education Achievement service (EAS) for south east Wales. This was formed by Blaenau Gwent, Caerphilly, Monmouthshire, Newport and Torfaen councils. It will provide increased levels of challenge and support to schools. The EAS will work with governors, school leaders and staff to improve the learning experience of children and young people and, through this, enhance their success in national examinations and opportunities for employment.
The Blaenau Gwent Learning Zone will offer exciting opportunities for people of all ages, when it
opens its doors in September. The new Ebbw Fawr Learning Community will be the first 3-16 maintained school in Wales.
