Long serving councillor Brian Thomas has been elected Mayor of Blaenau Gwent for 2010/2011 at the Council’s annual meeting.
Coun Thomas – a ward member in Sirhowy for 37 years – said:
“It is a privilege to be elected as Mayor – and I am honoured to be representing Blaenau Gwent for the exciting year ahead.”
His Mayor’s appeal will raise money for local charities the Hospice of the Valleys and In the Pink.
Outgoing Mayor, Coun John Williams MBE thanked everyone for their support and said how much he had enjoyed a busy year.
Coun Mike Bartlett – a Llanhilleth ward member - was elected Deputy Mayor of Blaenau Gwent.
