Blaenau Gwent pupils were given the fantastic opportunity to be entertained and inspired by acclaimed children’s author Steve Cole as part of this year’s World Book Day.
As a focus for World Book Day celebrations, Blaenau Gwent Libraries used a grant from the Welsh Books Council to invite the multi-million selling author Steve Cole to appear at Beaufort Theatre on Friday 9 March, 2012.
Steve is author of popular children’s books such as Astrosaurs, Cows In Action, Z. Rex and many more. He entertained over 650 Key Stage 2 pupils from across Blaenau Gwent by sharing energetic tales of how he began writing and the inspiration behind some of his best selling titles.
After enthralling the audience with an excerpt from one of his hugely successful Astrosaurs books, Steve launched into a mind-boggling interactive session designed to show the children how easy it is to come up with their own fantastical stories.
Steven used everyday things like their pets for inspiration, before bringing the session to a close with a hilarious question and answer session.
The three sessions provided a fascinating insight into creative writing and gave the children a fabulous opportunity to meet the mind behind some of their favourite books and even get their book signed!
Through inspirational workshops such as these, Blaenau Gwent Libraries hope to inspire a new generation of authors to keep the written word alive.
