Council clarifies position on Rassau wind turbine

16 February 2012

Blaenau Gwent Council has clarified its position on the wind turbine erected recently on Rassau Industrial Estate, Ebbw Vale.

Council planners did not grant permission for the turbine. During 2007, the Council was unable to secure the information – particularly on noise and visual impact - needed to make a decision. The developer therefore went on to lodge a ‘non determination appeal’ with the Planning Inspectorate who appointed an Inspector who then granted planning permission. This decision was publicly reported to the Council’s Planning Committee in December 2007. A copy of that report can be viewed on the Councils website. The Inspector did not attach any conditions regarding noise, but the Council can reassure residents that it will check that the turbine complies with the terms of its planning permission.
