Blaenau Gwent Council Teams Up With Post Office Ltd To Listen To Public

15 September 2008

Post Offices in Blaenau Gwent are the first in Wales to offer customers the opportunity to use touch screens to take part in a local authority consultation about their area.

Post Office Ltd has joined forces with Blaenau Gwent Council to enable the public to express their views about life in the county borough.

Over the next four or five weeks, local people will be able to register their opinions at 13 post office branches and 13 council or community venues (such as leisure centres and libraries) using the new touch screen service from Post Office Ltd.  (Full list of venues below.)

Blaenau Gwent is the first local authority in Wales to team up with Post Office Ltd to offer this new service.
The survey will allow the Council to make the best decisions about setting priorities for the next 10 to 15 years and how local services can be improved as part of the new Community Strategy.

Cllr Des Hillman, Leader of Blaenau Gwent Council, said:

“We are committed to listening to local people and want to give everyone the chance to help shape the future of Blaenau Gwent.

“The community canvass is a great opportunity for local people to have their say in how services can be improved.

“We are delighted to be the first council in Wales to work in partnership with the Post Office in this new way.  I hope that as many people as possible take up the opportunity to take part in the canvass, it only takes around five minutes to complete.”

Huw Roberts, Director of Welsh Affairs, Royal Mail Group said:

“We are absolutely delighted with this partnership with Blaenau Gwent Council, which is the first of this kind in Wales. “

“This new service we offer will enable the Council to undertake their obligations to consult with the communities that they serve in the most efficient and effective way.  I would therefore encourage everyone to go a participating branch, express their views to the Council and ask the sub-postmaster about many other products and services we offer.”
