Discover Some Of Blaenau Gwent’s Past At St Illtyd’s Heritage Day

10 September 2008

Step back in time at a special heritage day at St Illtyd’s Church in Brynithel this month.

On Saturday 27 September 2008, the church will be opening its doors from 11am to 3.30pm. Visitors can take part in a variety of free events and enjoy the spectacular landscape views of Blaenau Gwent from the churchyard.

Blaenau Gwent Council’s Heritage Officer, Frank Olding will be lead a number of short heritage walks, taking in the local archaeology and folklore of one of the oldest buildings in the area.

Communities First Officer for Cwmtillery, David Llewellyn will talk about the Abertillery Heritage Trails Project, which looks at historical events and buildings in the area.

The ‘Victorian Surgeon’ will also be paying a visit, demonstrating the gore of past medical practices. This is not for the faint hearted!
