A charity or organisation wishing to carry out a charitable collection for money or property in a public street or area, may require a street collection permit.
When applying for a permit, the applicant is required to provide authorisation from the charity involved. If a permit is granted, collections for money must be made in sealed containers from 'passers by'. However, collectors must not approach people and ask for a donation.
Within one month from the date of the collection, the promoter of the collection must submit a return, to the Council, stating the amount of money or value of property collected.
N.B. A permit is not required for sponsored events or where a collection box is left at a business premises, e.g. shop, public house, etc, for collection at a later date.
