Blaenau Gwent has secured a £4 million pound investment to provide high quality social and affordable housing throughout Blaenau Gwent.
The funding has been secured from the Welsh Assembly Governement through the Social Housing Grant programme in partnership with United Welsh Housing Association.
143 homes will be created in total , 18 in Cwmtillery, 36 in Tredegar, 44 in Briery Hill and 45 in Rassau.
The sites will contain a mixture of new social rented and shared equity accommodation enabling first time buyers to secure a place on the housing market.
This is a much needed project in Blaenau Gwent, as house prices have risen by 161% over the last five years. In January of this year the Halifax reported that average house prices in the area as £107,000.
The Social Housing Grant programme will also fund a new homeless unit in place of the existing unit, Arosfa, in Tredegar. This will consist of eight self-contained family units and ten single person bedsits with communal facilities and 24 hour support.
