Tenants Appoint an Independent Tenants Advisor (ITA)

In January of this year the Tenant Compact Group appointed an Independent Tenants Advisor to give advice and guidance to tenants on the proposals regarding transferring their homes.

The Director, Patrick Harkness, of the appointed ITA, Tact at Dome Consultants explains the role below:

Who are we - and what is Tenants’ Advice?
The Tenants Advice and Consultancy Team (TACT) from DOME Consultants, based in Cwmbran, are the Independent Advisors to all Blaenau Gwent Council tenants and leaseholders. We tendered for the work, and were interviewed and appointed by the Tenant Compact Group.

Our job is to:

  • Give you clear, balanced and accurate information - explaining the good and the bad points about the proposed transfer of your homes to a new landlord
  • Work with tenants, leaseholders and shared owners to get the best possible deal for the future

  • We have worked for tenants in over 80 places in England and Wales, where major changes have been out to tenants.

Getting to know you - and how you can become involved
We will be visiting parts of Blaenau Gwent where there are Council tenants, in the spring.

We will also visit all sheltered housing schemes, to meet residents and their family members or advocates.

Programme of Events
There will be regular events over the next few months to look at what a transfer to a different landlord can mean for Council tenants and leaseholders.  At these events you will have a chance to look at the Council’s proposals very carefully and negotiate the best possible deal for everyone.

The way to make sure that you are listened to is for as many tenants and leaseholders as possible to get involved and have a say.  So please think about joining in.

Theme Groups open to all Council tenants and leaseholders will discuss key issues like:

  • Making sure that the new landlord is able to provide the necessary funding to do all of the work that is necessary into the future

  • Making sure that tenants have a real say in how the new organisation is run

  • Helping to decide how the new organisation is set up

  • looking at the 5 RS (Rights, Rents, Repairs, Representation, Regeneration and Services) to make sure that tenants and leaseholders are fully protected.

Contact us
Remember that a transfer of the Council’s homes can only happen if tenants vote for it.

Please contact us with any questions that you have about the proposals to transfer your homes, as well as information about what would happen if tenants decide to stay with the Council.

All of our advice is FREE and CONFIDENTIAL
