Advocacy For Social Services Clients

Blaenau Gwent Social Services funds a local National Youth Advocacy Service (NYAS) to help children and young people who are receiving support from Blaenau Gwent Social Services.

NYAS is a new service that visits and supports children and young people to make sure that adults and other professionals involved in their care listen to them.  This may include supporting them to attend meetings, write letters, make a complaint or simply by sorting out a problem they have and don't now who else to ask.

Another aspect of the service is to support children who are "looked after" by the local authority and do not have any contact with their family.  This can mean a trained worker visiting the child or young person every month to help them to develop or pursue a hobby, attend football matches or take them shopping!

NYAS are a national organisation that has established a local office at the Ebbw Vale Festival Site.

If you are a Young Person with a problem or you would like some advice or just want to speak confidentially to an advisor you can call NYAS.
