Recycling - General Information

Recycling Collections
 
All residents in Blaenau Gwent have been given clear recycling bags, blue recycling bags and an information leaflet.

Please put any recyclable materials into the bags and put the bags out for collection on your normal collection day each week.

In the Clear Bag we accept:

Paper:

 Magazines
 Catalogues
 Telephone Directories
 Envelopes
 Wrapping Paper
 Paperback Books

Cardboard:

 Boxes
 Greeting Cards

In the Blue Bags we accept:

Cans

 Food & Drinks Cans
 Aerosol Cans
 Foil

Glass

 Bottles & Jars

Plastic

 Bottles (Drinks Bottles, Shampoo Bottles, Detergent Bottles etc.)
 Margarine & Butter tubs
 Yoghurt Pots
 Fruit Punnet & Meat Trays

Food & Drinks Cartons

 Juice Cartons

We will not accept

×  Paint tins
×  Food contaminated cardboard
×  Broken glass
×  Crockery & Pyrex
×  Window glass
×  Cling Film, Carrier Bags
×  Polystyrene

Please leave the bags containing recyclables on the kerbside near your property on the day of collection.

Refuse and recycling are collected in different vehicles so please keep your recyclables separate from your refuse.

You can put your recycling bags alongside your refuse bin or next to your black bags but please do not put bags of recycling inside the bin you use for refuse.

When you are running short of bags please put the tag provided in a prominent position on one of the bags you put out for collection.

Please note

 

• We collect recyclables in refuse type vehicles because this is more efficient. These are totally different vehicles to the ones that pick up your household waste. The material we collect for recycling is recycled and does not go to landfill.
• We have reorganized our collection services so that your refuse and recycling are collected on the same day. 
• We can only collect recyclables if they are in the correct bags. Please do not use black bags, carrier bags or other bags for recycling
  

 

Young recycling champs

Teenagers Rhys Hamblin and Lulu Zhana are members of Tredegar Comprehensive School’s environmental team. They are keen to get to grips with the new recycling service and they tried out the new blue bags – for cans, plastic and glass – and the new clear bags – for paper and cardboard.

Their verdict: there is more room for stuff to go to recycling.
