Household Waste - Rubbish Collections
Notice of future changes to your Refuse Collection
We are making changes to the way that we collect your refuse.
We will be offering you a wheeled bin that can be used to store your non recyclable materials.
Your collections will also change from a weekly service to an alternate weekly collection.
Later this year you will receive your wheeled bin along with an instructional leaflet about how the new service will work and when it will change.
The reasons for making these changes are:
-
To increase recycling and reduce waste going to landfill and meet government targets
-
Avoid increasing landfill costs
-
Avoid the council receiving financial penalties which will ultimately result in increases to Council Tax
-
Reduce problems with black bag collections and to deal with our wastes in a more environmentally friendly way.

Rubbish Collections
The refuse collection service operates throughout the borough and provides a weekly collection from all domestic properties.
Guidelines for residents for the collection of their domestic refuse -
- You must leave your bins and black bags for collecton near your front gate, either in your front garden, on the drive or path, but not on the pavement or grass verge.
- Put your rubbish bins and bags out for collection from 7.30 am on the day of collection or alternatively put them out the night before.
- If your collection is via a rear service road, you continue to leave it in the usual place.
- Only where your front door opens directly onto the pavement and there is no rear access would you leave your bins or black bags on the pavement next to your door - be careful not to obstruct the pavement for pedestrians.
- Between collections you do not store bins or bags anywhere other than on the property where you live.
- Occassionally our collection lorry cannot gain access to certain areas because of parked cars. This can result in refuse being left until such time that we have a smaller or spare vehicle available. If you have a car can you please make sure that it does not cause an obstruction
Arrangements for the collection of domestic refuse -
- The Refuse team will collect refuse weekly, except on Bank or Public Holidays where special arrangements will be made. The authority will tell the public about arrangements for Bank or Public Holidays in local publications and via the Borough's website.
- Dustbins will be emptied and returned to where they are normally left for collection. Residents are asked to leave their rubbish near to the front gate.
- The crew will leave the premises as we find them; closing / replacing lids on empty containers and closing any gates / bin cupboard doors opened to collect refuse.
- Any mess left by the refuse collectors will be cleared on the same day if possible, or if not, on the following day.
- Arrangements will be made to empty missed bins by the end of the next working day.
- The crew will always take due care to avoid damage to containers or other property and to avoid nuisance to residents.
