The Heart of the Valleys Children's Centre based at the former Blaina Infant School offers registered English and Welsh playgroup provision, parent and toddler groups, a toy library, language and play sessions, a holiday club, the Children and Youth Information Service and staffed play provision.

Support for parents will also be provided, with antenatal groups, breast-feeding support and baby clubs. There is also a training suite offering training and development courses.
The new centre has been funded by a £385,000 grant from the Big Lottery Fund and £300,000 from the Welsh Assembly Government.
