Opening of New Welsh Medium Primary School
Ysgol Gymraeg Bro Helyg, the replacement Welsh Medium Primary School for Ysgol Gymraeg Brynmawr, opened its doors to staff and pupils on 6th September 2010. The school is the latest to be delivered by Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council, as parts of its School Transformation Policy. The £6 million scheme provides a full range of modern facilities, including:
- Pre-school and early years provision
- ICT suite with state of the art technology
- Library
- Sports hall and changing facilities
- A dedicated room for use by the community
- Pre-school provision on site at Cylch Meithrin Helyg Bychan
The building provides the infra-structure for young people and the community to learn in a modern, state of the art environment.
The school was officially opened on 18th November 2010, by Rt. Hon Carwyn Jones AM, First Minister of Wales. Pupils, staff and guests joined in the celebrations, which concluded with a balloon launch.
Headteacher, Dilys Williams, is thrilled with the new school. She said:
“We are excited about this new era in Welsh education. We see the new school, with its technological resources and extensive grounds, as being on the cutting edge of progressive education, and a springboard for pupils to reach their full potential.”
