The official launch took place at the Llanhilleth Institute and was attended by Councillor Stephen Bard (Executive Member for Education), Phil Hodgson (Lead Director for Children and Young People and Corporate Director for Community Services) and the Youth Mayor, Laura Beaten.
To ensure the children and young people could participate and enjoy such an important event, a competition was set up for all schools in Blaenau Gwent to take part in an arts competition about what they aspire to be in the future. The lucky winners from all over the Borough were invited to take a ride in a tethered hot air balloon over the Llanhilleth valley. Activities were also provided for all of the winners to take part in. The day was a huge success and children’s feedback was very positive.
Thank you to Llanhilleth Institute and St Illtyds Primary School for letting us use your facilities to launch the Children and Young People’s Plan.
The vision of the Children and Young People’s Partnership is “Working together we will strive to ensure that all children and young people will be supported to achieve their full potential”.
The Children and Young People’s Plan is the vehicle for delivering this vision. Having one ‘single plan’ for the delivery of services for children and young people demonstrates a new way of planning. The plan illustrates how all agencies working with children and young people within Blaenau Gwent will cooperate to achieve common goals, to improve outcomes for children and young people. The aim is to deliver, on a multi agency basis, responsive, innovative and effective services to children, young people and their families.
The plan is ambitious and challenging; it places children’s rights and entitlements at the centre of the agenda. The Partnership believes the involvement of children, young people and families is fundamental to the success of the plan, and therefore involved them in all stages of the plan’s development. The plan will help to ensure all staff working with children and young people understand the contribution that they are making to improving outcomes.
The Partnership and the CYP Plan is the starting point, the next stage is the delivery of actions, focusing resources on key priorities. The Partnership has developed action plans to underpin the CYP Plan, these will ensure partner accountability and responsibility for delivery of the plan’s priorities.
