Safety
Information on the Internet
Safety
is a major consideration on the Ebbw Valley Railway Line. The line
is now active and is in frequent use. Raising the profile of
railway and construction safety within the local community is very
important – just as it was throughout the building phase. Schools
have been the focus of the safety campaign. Three sets of letters
have been sent out to over 30 schools that are close to the Ebbw
Valley Railway. The letters provided general scheme
information and programme related safety updates. They also provided
schools with access to railway and construction safety publications.
Safety talks with a representative of the British Transport Police
were held in many schools. A number of schools within the
vicinity of the line also gained more safety information through the
Crucial Crew programme (a child safety education scheme) and class
visits to the ‘Safety Zone’ project at Treforest which includes
a mini replica railway line and construction site. The
broader community were contacted in a mail-drop covering all the
streets bordering the line. These letters provided general
safety information as well as contact details for the main scheme
contractor. The Amey Helpline - 07000 7245929 (07000 RAILWAY)
– was posted on this website. The helpline is available to any
local resident who has a specific issue relating to ongoing works.
Ebbw
Valley Railway Community Newsletter were distributed and posted on
this website. The newsletters covered a number of issues
relating to the scheme including project news, articles of general
or historical interest and further safety information. There
are also some very good sources of railway and construction safety
information on the internet which are listed below. Schools
