station at Risca & Pontymister is situated on the open grassed areas
west of the railway, north of Mill Street underbridge. The railway station
has two platforms serving the two tracks and is located within a
residential area in central Risca. The main road through the town,
Commercial Street (B4591) passes approximately 250 metres to the south
west of the proposed station site. Both
platforms will have covered waiting areas. A car park will be provided
adjacent to the northbound platform on land that is currently used for
informal recreation The
car park will be accessed from a single point on Park Road and will
accommodate 94 spaces, (including 6 for disabled use). In
addition, a pick up/set down area will be provided adjacent to the
northbound platform. Footways on each side of the access road will link
this platform to Park Road. Cycle lockers will be provided. The station
platforms, access road, car park and pedestrian routes will be fully lit.
The only access that will be available directly to the southbound platform
will be for pedestrians. This will lead to Mill Street opposite the Masons
Arms public house.
