Abertillery Station

At the onset of the scheme, interchange opportunities will be provided through the linking of bus services to Abertillery town centre with the station at Llanhilleth.

A new station at Abertillery is proposed as a later phase of the scheme. This would be located at the British Gas site south of the former Co-op store. The extension of the railway line to Abertillery would involve relaying the line from Aberbeeg. It will also complicate the railway’s operation as it would result in two possible northern destinations for passenger services.

The implementation of this station is dependent upon further design and costing work to develop a preferred solution for the site. The precise timescale for the implementation of this station depends on its economic viability in cost-benefit terms, the availability of funding, as well as the need to obtain the necessary planning consent. A Transport & Works Act order may also be required. This proposal would be subject to a separate public consultation exercise.
