Progress Update – January 2007

Since the start of main works at the end of September work has been progressing well. Redundant track has been removed and the ballast along the line has been cleaned or replaced where necessary. 90% of the new 3 mile double track section is complete and the new junctions are currently being installed.

Road-Rail plant is operational on a regular basis and delivery trains are a more frequent sight. There has also been progress on the cabling required for the signalling. Track side fencing works are also well underway with over 5km installed to date..   

Signalling and electrical equipment has been ordered and installation of the cable troughing route has commenced.

New Sleepers on Double Track Section.

Work on the detailed design of the first stations to be built is nearing completion and once planning conditions are satisfied construction work can commence on the first phase stations.
