Dog Fouling
The Council receives many complaints regarding dog fouling. Dog mess is unhealthy, anti-social, unpleasant, unwanted and a risk to public health.
Dog fouling is associated with a number of diseases, the worst of which is a roundworm found in dogs known as Toxocara. This can be picked up by young children and cause stomach upsets, sore throats, asthma and possibly blindness.
The Law
It is an offence not to clean up after your dog. Failure to do this can result in being issued a fixed penalty notice, or possible prosecution.
Cleaning up after your dog
If you own a dog, please be responsible and always carry a poop scoop or suitable bag. This can then be deposited in a suitable bin or at home.
What we are doing
The Council recognises that dog fouling is a problem in Blaenau Gwent. We are installing dog bins throughout the Borough, and have a rapid response unit for cleansing. Irresponsible owners who allow their dogs to foul public land face being issued with a fixed penalty notice or prosecuted.
