Business Rates Reductions
Small Business Rate Relief
Small business rate relief has been extended in Wales until 31 March 2017.
The relief was enhanced from 1 October 2010 so that properties with a rateable value of £6,000 or less are eligible for 100% relief. This means you won’t pay business rates on those properties.
The rate of relief decreases from 100% to 0% for properties with a rateable value between £6,001 and £12,000.
If your business currently receives a higher amount of small business rate relief, then you will receive the rate of relief that benefits you the most.
In addition to the temporary enhancements shown above, the scheme allows for the following relief:
Section A – The rules for Post Offices are slightly different:
- Post Offices (and properties which include Post Offices) with a rateable value up to £9,000 will receive 100% relief;
- Post Offices (and properties which include Post Offices) with a rateable value between £9,001 and £12,000 will receive 50% relief.
- Premises with rateable value between £10,501 and £11,000 in receipt of 25% retail relief will continue to get this level of relief.
- Registered Child Care premises with rateable value £9,001 - £12,000 in receipt of 50% relief will continue to get this level of relief.
How to apply
If the property you occupy has a rateable value of up to £12,000 or satisfies the criteria in Section A above, small business rate relief is applied automatically to your bill so you do not need to apply.
If you think the property you occupy satisfies the criteria in Section B above, and you have not yet applied for relief, you can download an application form below:
