The Business Resource Centre offers Government funded training in the following areas.
Skill Build
In conjunction with Careers Wales and JobCentre Plus this provision offers training for young people and adults between the ages of 16 and 64.
It is pre-level 1 provision that aims to help individuals find a job or career route that suits them. It also provides them with the skills that will allow them to progress to a NVQ level 1 qualification route in their chosen occupational field.
Skill Build can last up to 13 weeks and combines work tasters with sessions that focus on essential skills.
As part of this initiative the Business Resource Centre offers the following provisions:
Occupational Tasters
These are offered in the following areas:

Alternative placements can be sourced for those whose chosen occupation does not feature in the above list.
There is also the opportunity to move around these routes in order to experience differing occupations.
Goals Motivational Courses
These aim to develop self-esteem and motivation. Individuals are supported to gain focus and move forward positively whether this be towards employment or further learning.
Key Skills
These qualifications aim to improve practical skills which employers find desirable. They are offered in Communication, Application of Number, Information Technology, Problem Solving, Working with Others and Improving Own Learning.
Basic Skills
These sessions provide help with literacy and numeracy and can be offered at varying levels from Pre Entry to Level 1.
Job Search
The centre provides a comprehensive job search programme that is certificated.
ICT 3
Introduction into word-processing, spreadsheets, databases.
Progression
After completing this preparatory programme individuals may move into employment or have the opportunity to move onto Skill Build Plus.
Those who are aged between 16-18 and are interested in this provision should contact their local Careers Wales office. Those who are aged 18+ should contact their local Jobcentre Plus.
Skill Build Plus
This is accessible to people of all ages who wish to gain a qualification. It provides practical training, at a NVQ level 1 standard, which will help learners access the job market or further education.

There is also the opportunity to complete the following additional qualifications that will enhance a learners’ prospects.
Technical Certificate
This is a vocationally related qualifications that exists to give a person the knowledge and skills they need to function successfully. The Business Resource Centre offers this through the Motor Vehicle Progression Award (Technical Cert.)
Foundation Construction Award ( Technical certificate)
This provides learners with the necessary skills to achieve a recognised qualification from the Construction Industry Training Board. It is offered in bricklaying, carpentry and painting and decorating
Key Skills
L.1 skills in Communication, Application of Number, Information Technology, Problem Solving, Working with Others and Improving Own Learning.
Progression - Those who complete this training and gain employment may have the opportunity to undertake an FMA.

Those who are 18+ should contact their local Jobcentre Plus.
Foundation Modern Apprenticeship
This provision is suitable for those with employed status who wish to gain a recognised work based qualification.
Over a two year period the FMA combines the following elements:
NVQ Level 2 in chosen occupational route
Key Skills – At L1 or L.2 Key Skills in the areas mentioned above.
