Lynn visited Beaufort Hill Primary School, which has come first in the schools category three times in the last four years, along with Cllr Royston Welch, Blaenau Gwent’s Executive Member for Sustainable Communities. They met some of the children who have taken part in the planting around the school which has brought them such success in previous competitions.
This will be the nineteenth year that the competition has been run by the council’s Regeneration Division, and this year there will be extra support from the Council’s Education Department and Communities First.
The closing date for entries to the competition is Friday 8 June, with judging taking place between 9 and 12 of July. This year’s judge will be Margaret Capel.

“We hope this year will be better than ever, with schools really making a big effort and Communities First promoting it in their local areas.
“The competition is all about improving the quality of life for those who live and work within the County Borough, and recognising the efforts of individuals, community groups, businesses and other organisations who are making a valuable contribution to improving the local environment by enhancing gardens, allotments and areas of open space.”
