Regeneration is one of the 7 action areas identified in the Blaenau Gwent Community Plan and is a key element in driving forward the changes needed to make "Blaenau Gwent a better place to live and work".

The Regeneration mission for Blaenau Gwent is to:-

“WORK IN PARTNERSHIP WITH OTHER ORGANISATIONS AND THE WIDER COMMUNITY FOR THE SOCIO-ECONOMIC AND ENVIRONMENTAL WELL BEING AND REGENERATION OF THE AREA”

To achieve this goal there is a strong relationship between the work of the Regeneration Division and other Council functions including:- education, housing, leisure and health. This relationship, along with other organisations involved in regeneration at national, regional and local level cannot be underestimated, and in this context the aim is to maximise the amount of resources allocated to regeneration activity, to collaborate on regeneration activity, facilitate co-operation amongst partners and deliver improvements in the quality of life of local residents.

This regeneration vision for Blaenau Gwent has already begun, with major regeneration initiatives underway, including the dualling of the Heads of the Valleys trunk road, the re-introduction of a rail link for passengers between Ebbw Vale and Cardiff and the re-development of the former Tin Plate Works site in Ebbw Vale.
