The Cemetery
All Blaenau Gwent cemeteries are working cemeteries and obviously, interments take place regularly. In addition, other activities are being carried out e.g. monumental masons could be working at a graveside near to your family grave. Also, contractors might be repairing roadways, gully cleaning, carrying out building maintenance and cemetery improvements. We ask that you be aware of these activities, as we do not wish to cause any further distress to you.
As an Authority we constantly strive to improve the facilities for visitors to each of our cemeteries. All activities such as the placing of headstones, kerb surrounds etc., must be authorised by the Environment Directorate.
Sometimes, perhaps, on your visit you will find the ground conditions very wet and muddy due to the climatic conditions in which we live. We do apologise for this; however, we are making every effort to alleviate the conditions by placing land drains within each section of the cemetery. You might find that topsoil is needed on your family grave to bring it up to the level of the surrounding ground. If this is indeed the case, please contact the sexton, who will undertake the work for you.
On other occasions you might find graves being re-opened for a burial next to your family grave. Every effort is made to minimise any disruption to you and your family. We are only concerned that your visit to our cemeteries is as comforting and consoling as possible.
