Bedwellty House and park are located in the Sirhowy Valley in the town of Tredegar.  The house is a grade II listed building and dates to the earliest years of the 19th century.  The park is a designated conservation area and a registered historic park. The park includes landscape areas and historically significant structures.
   

This project represents a true partnership between Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council, the local community and funding agencies including The Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF), Welsh Government, European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and Cadw.
  

The restoration has created a focus for community activities, education, healthy living and above all local pride.  The restoration has provided a focus for tourism in Tredegar and the Valleys.
  

The works involved in the restoration of the house and park along with adaptation to make it a visitor centre included:
   

  • Restoration and extension of Orchard House as café restaurant
  • The provision of a new atrium entrance and courtyard
  • Provision for toilets
  • Provision of offices for Tredegar Town Council and the Blaenau Gwent Registra, rentable commercial offices with serviced reception area and meeting room.
  • Accessible lift to 1st floor
  • Use of Miners Room and Assembly Rooms for weddings and receptions
  • Refurbishment of the Stable Blocks as flexible exhibition and education spaces
  • Provision of servery, bar and store
  • Park gates and entrances 
  • Boundary Wall and railings
  • Kitchen Garden
  • Grotto Arch and Fountain
  • Ice House

 
The restored facilities provides visitors with a flavour of what the park was like during Victorian times. ‘Visitors will feel as if they have stepped back in time, Locals have a first class park again with facilities for weddings and other ceremonies and the fascinating story of, Bedwellty House and Park will be told though innovative new technologies.’ said  Executive Member for Leisure and Culture Councillor Jason Owen
  

Directions
  

Take the Tredegar turn off the A465 Heads of the Valley Road. Proceed along the bypass road and take the third exit at the fifth roundabout. Travel along Promenade D’Orvault and up the hill and park in the public car park in Morgan Street, approx. 100 meters down from the town clock.
  

Visitors travelling from the south along the A4048 should take the first exit on the second roundabout on the Tredegar Bypass. Travel along Promenade D’Orvault and up the hill and park in the public car park in Morgan Street, approx. 100 meters down from the town clock.
