Trading Standards - Product Safety

A wide range of legislation exists concerning product safety to ensure nothing is placed on the market which poses an unacceptable risk of injury or death.  Everything is covered from babies dummys to construction products.  Products are routinely examined during inspections for example garage forecourts, and complaints are investigated when received.

Historically, we have conducted testing on car seats and electric blankets to determine whether or not they are safe.  We also take part in Wales wide surveys where goods are bought or hired before testing.  These surveys have included hair straightners and tool hire.

Where goods are found to be unsafe we have the power to suspend movement and supply, or to seize

Explosives Storage

We also have an important role in ensuring that explosives and fireworks are stored and displayed safely.  Risk assessments are carried out at firework stores and licences issued to traders wishing to sell fireworks.
