Freedom Of Information - Advice

The Freedom of Information Act deals with access to official information and gives individuals or organisations the right to request information from any public authority.

The Act requires all public authorities - to adopt and maintain a publication scheme which sets out all the information which the Council holds and routinely publishes. The Blaenau Gwent scheme is based on what is already published on a regular basis and provides information about where the information can be obtained.

In accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council has adopted a Publication Scheme which is available below in 'related documents'.

The purposes of this scheme is to make sure that the significant and growing amount of information is easily available without the need for individuals to make a specific request, and to encourage a culture of openness within local government.

For further information on the Freedom of Information Act you can go to the Information Commissioner’s website which contains a great deal of information about this subject, answer to frequently asked questions (faq's) and a downloadable copy of the Act in full.
