Regeneration Projects

HAVE YOUR SAY - BLAENAU GWENT REGENERATION STRATEGY

A Regeneration Strategy was prepared for Blaenau Gwent by consultants, Shared Intelligence.  The Council approved the Strategy in September 2009.  It also has the approval of the Blaenau Gwent Regeneration Partnership Board. Copies of the Regeneration Strategy are available in all Blaenau Gwent libraries and in Communities First Offices.

Now, the Regeneration Strategy is currently being revised and updated. It shows the way forward for jobs, business and the local economy up to 2018 and sets out six key principles for the successful regeneration of Blaenau Gwent. These are that we should:

• diversify the economy and develop manufacturing
• boost business support and enterprise
• promote learning and modern skills
• focus investment in key communities
• deliver The Works as a national flagship
• develop the transport infrastructure.

Investment across Blaenau Gwent

The Regeneration Strategy says that investment projects should focus on:

• new schools, community centres, learning and IT facilities and business centres in all four community ‘hubs’  – Ebbw Vale, Upper Ebbw Fach, Lower Ebbw Fach and Tredegar
• successfully transforming the old steelworks site and developing The Works so it has the potential for 3,000 jobs. The project is on track with the new hospital and  environmental centre (both completed 2010) and the General Offices restored (2011)
• completing the new dual carriageway Heads of the Valleys road between Tredegar and Brynmawr and the Ebbw Valley Railway links
• improving local areas and town centres where people go about their daily business.
