Blaenau Gwent Achieves Corporate Investor in People Status

A key objective of the Authority is the attainment and retention of Corporate Investor in People status.

The IiP standard assesses the effectiveness of an organisation in managing and developing its people in order to achieve its business objectives. It covers areas such as communication, objective setting, learning and development, the impact of learning on service delivery, etc.

As part of the work towards accreditation, over the past few years all of the Authority’s departments have sought and achieved individual accreditation against the standard.

The difference between the individual and corporate accreditation is that staff are interviewed about the whole Authority, its management, vision, objectives, learning & development, etc, rather than just what goes on in their own service area.

The Authority was initially assessed in December 2005 but failed to meet the standard in a couple of areas, which needed improvement. The re-assessment took place on Dec 4-5 2006, and in early January the Authority was informed that it had been recognised as meeting the current standard, the first Local Authority in Wales to do so.

Accreditation against the Corporate IiP Standard is a significant achievement for the Authority and all staff, not because it is a prestigious award in itself, but because it is an indication that the Authority is managing and developing its people fairly and effectively in order to deliver improving services to the citizens of Blaenau Gwent.
