Housing Services is responsible for managing the Authority’s Council Housing Stock. It delivers its core service at Anvil Court, Abertillery and in outreach venues situated throughout the Borough dealing directly with tenants from those areas on matters such as repairs, anti social behaviour and the lettings process (see related document on outreach venues).
Housing Services is a social housing landlord, providing a tenant focused, cost effective housing management and repairs service to its tenants. It is committed to improving its services in line with the needs and preferences of its tenants and to increasing their participation in the decision-making process.
The mission statement for the service is:
‘To provide high quality affordable housing and customer focused services to the people of Blaenau Gwent’.
Housing Services takes its direction from the key strategic aim as per the agreed Community Plan for the area:
"to ensure that quality affordable accommodation is accessible and available within sustainable communities for all residents’’
Housing Services has recognised the affect that affordable, good quality housing in well managed estates impacts on a number of socio-economic issues that affect the people of the area, i.e. health issues and social inclusion. It has acknowledged that creating places where people want to live has long-term benefits for the communities involved in those areas.
It is therefore committed to the long-term objective of:
Regenerating housing estates and improving the sustainability of the communities within those estates, through a programme of refurbishment of existing housing stock, the eradication of obsolete housing, supporting community groups and community based projects and working with partner organisations to achieve shared goals.
