MInor Works Repair Grants

A Minor Works Repair Grant is a housing repair grant that is specifically targeted towards the most vulnerable homeowners in Blaenau Gwent.

Who can apply?

1. Owner -Occupier who:
a) are aged 65 and over; and
b) are the freeholder or leaseholder (with at least five years to run) of the property; and
c) have owned and occupied their property for a minimum of three years; and
d) are in receipt of any of the following state benefits:
(i) Council Tax Benefit
(ii) State Pension Credit
(iii) Disability Living Allowance
(iv) War Disablement Pension
(v) Attendance Allowance
(vi) Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit

2. Persons age 80 or over (who have owned and occupied their property for a minimum of three years).  Applicants aged 80+ will not need to be in receipt of any benefits to qualify for the grant.

What is the Minor Works Grant Available for?

The type of allowable works will be as follows:

a. Work required to the external envelope of building to ensure the property is wind and weatherproof, such as :
(i) repairs to roof, rainwater goods, facias//soffits etc.
(ii) renewal of external door(s)/windows
(iii) repairs to external stonework/brickwork.

b. Electrical rewiring due to dangerous condition.
c. Repairs to essential kitchen/bathroom amenities including provision of hot and cold water.
d. Repair to central heating systems
e. Repairs to stair lifts, through floor lifts or other equipment installed for disabled persons for the continuation of independent living
f. Any other works to eliminate significant hazards as identified under the Housing Health and Safety Rating System and/or that will enable eligible applicants to remain safely and comfortably in their own home.
